Sarah Potjewijd
Student, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire
Sarah began piano at the age of 6 and by age 15 had achieved a Diploma in Piano Performance. Throughout her childhood, Sarah also learned both Clarinet and Cello to Grade 8 standard, and performed in many prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall and Birmingham’s Symphony Hall with local youth orchestras.
Since dedicating herself to solely piano studies, Sarah has been prize-winner in the Two Moors Young Musician’s Competition 2021, and been invited to perform a lunchtime concert at the Budleigh Music Festival. During the summer break, Sarah has also played orchestral piano for the Amadeus Orchestra, performing at Wiltshire Music Centre and Exeter Cathedral.
After studying with local teachers until the end of her A-Levels, Sarah began her studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in September 2021, studying under Katharine Lam. She has enjoyed performing in many chamber ensembles – including a clarinet, viola and piano trio, and an Open Day performance with the percussion department. Sarah is hoping to develop both her solo and chamber playing throughout the rest of her time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
